Mexico Mission

mexico mission

For over 35 years, we've been building homes for families across Mexico.

In 1986, Steven Mabry took 36 youth and 9 adults to Tijuana to build homes.

Since that time, The United Church has sponsored 35 spring break trips and 6 summer trips to various areas of Mexico. We have built homes, churches, baños, orphanage walls, and home additions. Over 2600 worker weeks have provided the equivalent of 157 single homes!

Mexico Mission 2023 Update

Twenty-six youth and adults traveled to Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, Mexico to build houses for two needy families.   They worked through Amor Ministries, who provided the camp facility, determined which families needed the house, and had all the building materials on site when they arrived.  Because they wanted to be back in Los Alamos for Easter, the group arranged for the concrete floor to be poured before they arrived.  The campers had four working days to frame the houses, wrap them with chicken wire, roofing paper, more chicken wire, and apply 2 layers of stucco.  The plywood roofs were sealed with a sticky paint and fibrous material.  The finished houses were 11' x 22', with a door and two windows.  The Los Alamos group had a great time working with (and playing with) the two families. At the end of the four days, the group gathered inside each house to say a blessing and give the families the keys to their new house!
