Who We Are

About the United Church

Welcome!

We are a diverse church of all ages and backgrounds—from grandparents to young children.  Wherever you are in your faith journey, we welcome you! All are welcome in this community, Sanctuary and at Christ’s Table.

Chartered in 1947, The United Church of Los Alamos grew out of the desire of diverse Christians to continue worshiping together after World War II.  We are affiliated with the American Baptist Church, Christian Church/Disciples of Christ, Moravian Church in North America, Presbyterian Church USA, Reformed Church in America, and United Church of Christ.

Values & Vision

In our love for each other in the community, we value:

1

Worship

We are called to create a worship environment and experience that facilitates and deepens the worshippers’ connection to God and to each other.  As a church of diverse faith backgrounds, we are non-judging and open minded.

2

Faith Development

We are called to provide opportunities for all persons to grow in the understanding and the living of their faith, regardless of where they are on their faith journey.

3

Nurturing

We are called to warmly welcome those who come through our doors, to nurture each other in faith and fellowship, and to promote congregational well-being through caring relationships and prayer.

4

Inclusiveness

We are called to be an ecumenical, inclusive faith community, welcoming differing viewpoints and honoring the diversity within our congregation.

our church covenant

As God loves us, we are called to love God and to love each other, both within the community and throughout the world.

The United Church of Los Alamos offers an open Christian environment to those who seek to know God through Jesus Christ and to do God’s will.

What makes us different?

During our worship services, we acknowledge and pray for churches and organizations in our community, and we offer prayers for the world and our mission partners. Member activity is another important element of our fellowship. Church members play many roles during our worship service such as ushering, serving communion, providing readings, running the A/V Booth, coffee hosts, receiving offerings, etc.

Communion

Communion is offered on the first Sunday of each month. The United Church practices open communion and all are invited to celebrate the Lord's Supper. Our communion bread is gluten free.

Music

The United Church of Los Alamos is filled with music! From pipe organ to piano to guitar, choirs, bagpipes, and special solo and small ensemble music in the summer, we make a joyful noise unto the Lord! Our music selections are carefully chosen to be tied to the sermon.

Children's Moment

The kids of The United Church are a special part of Sunday worship with a weekly Children’s Moment. This offers an accessible and easily understood message about the Scripture, the sermon, worship practices and everyday tips for being a disciple of Jesus Christ.

Kids Ministry

Children are an integral part of our life together at the United Church. We all learn from the insights our children bring to our faith community, offering a safe place to wonder, challenge, and grow. We also provide regular resources for families and suggestions for faith development at home.
